Like criminal law, anything you say or do can be used against you in a domestic case. If you love to text, blog, email, post photos or videos and use social media, those are all potentially admissible as part of your case, and can often be used to hurt your case. Naturally, the reverse is true. Anything your spouse or significant other publicly or digitally transmits can be used in your favor.

Some cases should be settled quickly and economically, because there is not much to fight over. Other cases require much more work and effort on the part of the attorney which can include taking many depositions, extensive financial discovery, legal research and the use of expert witnesses regarding children, personal finances, business and real estate evaluations, plus many other areas because every case is unique. The hardest thing for a lawyer to do is to take as much emotion out of the domestic litigation equation so the parties can focus on what they reasonably can settle, if possible.

Unfortunately, domestic cases are highly emotional and one or both of the parties, along with their children, are in pain. This sometimes makes either the husband or wife want to make the other pay for that pain, both emotionally and financially by using the court system to do it. That makes the case much more expensive and much more complicated for the attorney to handle. This is especially true in matters involving child custody, where the best interest of the child(ren) should be most important to everyone involved.
